It's kinda surprising that people use the "use the chat filter" arguement. The chat filter does not absolve anyone from complying with the EULA.

it takes time to type out that stuff....I mean, if you need to vent---do it out loud, then you wont get in trouble for taking the time to type out something that shouldnt be. (unless you are on vent or tc then turn if off -- then swear you heart out out loud, and resume.)
If its something you cant say out loud, then geez, maybe you shouldnt be typing it either!!!!!!!

SWEARING should not be a bannable offense, and if it is, shame on ANet. Just ridiculous and i don't feel like getting worked up about how much of an IDIOTIC thing this is.

THIS IS THE POINT OF THE WORD FILTER. IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE BIG-BOY GROWN-UP LANGUAGE, PUT THE WORDFILTER ON AND QUIT YOUR WHINING AND BITCHING.

However, bypassing the wordfilter should be a bannable offense. Any children or sensitive pansies out there -- put your wordfilter on and go back to living in your online utopia where your ignorant little naive mind can be at peace.

Verbal harassment is a bannable offense, period. If you simply slip a curse word in every so often, that's not a big deal, and that's what the filter is for. If you deliberately let the curses fly, especially if you're attacking someone at the same time, then you do not deserve to play.

Ok, just to clear some things up.

1. I did not and do not swear or harasse other players.
2. I didn't type in swear words to by-pass the filter.
3. I was getting killed doing the hatchling quests in NF. First time I said
"---- I'm stuck", the second time I said "this is a ----ing joke why do they make normal mode so ----ing hard", and third time "I can't ----ing believe how piss weak dervishes are" or something to that effect.

Then I got the suspension message for 71 hours.

Then, basically, a person on your team got offended and reported you. Technically, that is bannable. I'm sorry to hear about your ban.

I swear a lot in the game, it helps me vent my frustration at stupid things that go wrong for some reason. I havent been banned yet, the swear words are never aimed at anyone but its bloody nice to be able to say what you want. Anyway, like people said, turn on the filter and get on with it, if it still bothers you when you see lines, then im sorry but GTFO.

Sucks about the ban, maybe from now on just don't type when you get angry

And don't tell me you don't say anything at all, because that's bottling in your feelings and that is slightly unhealthy.

That being said, I don't like when people swear when it's nowhere near necessary, but I just do a nice little /ignore for those people.

Same here. I almost never express my anger through text, and even if I do, I talk to someone not involved in the problem or is on my side. I may be ranting and cursing behind the monitor, but you might get something that could be interpreted as coming from someone completely level headed.

Really? So just because I agree with Anet that swearing in the game (in public channel) is a bannable offense, suddenly I'm a hypocrite?

Point me to where I said I never swear; you're the one who assumed that I'm a prude (your word).

I swear, all the time. I just never do it in public OR where it's inappropriate. How hard is it to do just that? And since when that makes you a hypocrite?

Which is also what I do. Swearing out loud (in your room in front of your PC) when you make a mistake is one thing, taking your time to type them and share them with the rest of the world is another story. When I feel the need to share (which of course I do), I just make sure they're not offensive. Like "Meh, I got killed with my new dervish build. I'm going to punish my sister for telling me the build is godly! XD" or something like that.

That has been bugging me since I read it, hypocrisy. You were close, but not quite close enough

Really though, your use of swearing seems a bit excessive, almost to the point were I personally would consider doing something about it (reporting, but only for the purpose of a warning, not a ban at this time, as I don't know how much you swear in general). However, I do feel that the repetitive use of '----'s is somewhat indicative of a lack of imagination, as really, there are far more amsuing terms you could be using. Hopefully though this is a lesson learned for next time

Maybe because I never expected this thread to turn into something about "me"? I mean, I express my opinion regarding the matter (a guy got banned for swearing in the game). Suddenly some of you turned it into "I never swear, you did it so you should get banned" and vocally attacked me.
